Helping Boys with Anxiety Disorder
We can help your son as he suffers with Anxiety Disorder (sometimes called Generalized Anxiety Disorder). This is a chronic condition marked by a harsh and debilitating intensity of fear, which may be accompanied by panic attacks; specific phobias provoked by particular things or situations, and may include social anxiety disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It can be purely mental and emotional, or perhaps include physical symptoms (i.e.: fast pulse rate, excessive sweating, trouble difficulty sleeping). Full-blown attacks can feel paralyzing to those who suffer.
Typically, a diagnosis requires that the anxiety last a minimum of six months.
We’re Here to Help Your Son Who Has Anxiety Disorder
Early Diagnosis and treatment for Anxiety Disorder is essential, in order to keep the anxiety from escalating to the point of clinical depression, maybe leading to self-medicating with alcohol, drugs or other damaging behaviors.
Your boy’s treatment approach might include one or more therapies. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the more helpful means for treating high-level anxiety. That approach focuses on pointing out thought patterns that can lead to anxiety, and then blocking negative behaviors by teaching him new responses to those triggering events.
Some children might benefit from medication to help in dealing with anxiety, although others find the side effects too difficult to handle.
As parents, it may be impossibly hard to grasp the underlying cause that triggers such responses in your son, but with early diagnosis and professional help, Anxiety Disorder is generally treated with fairly high rates of success.
